The driver slept 20 minutes from CJB, not three hours away in Ooty. Early trains at Coimbatore Junction and late flights are just another run.

Yes. The Bandipur and Mudumalai forest gates are closed to all cars and buses from 9 pm to 6 am, and there is no practical night alternative. We plan a 5 pm departure from Ooty for Mysore and Bangalore guests.
Book second class. The view is identical, first class is one carriage of 8 to 16 seats that sells out months ahead in April to June, and the IRCTC window opens 60 days before travel. We pair the Ooty to Coonoor ride with a cab waiting at Coonoor.
